Basic cutting-path terms
These elements describe how an operation starts, follows a contour and finishes.
Lead-in and lead-out
A lead-in connects an approach move to the cutting contour; a lead-out describes leaving it. Length and shape depend on geometry, material and process. The connection may affect edge quality nearby.
Pierce point
A pierce point is where the process starts through the material. Its position and parameters depend on the process strategy. Not every contour has an obvious safe starting point.
Tabs
A tab leaves a small material connection between a part and the sheet or neighboring parts. It affects stability, order and later part removal. Automatic placement needs a CAM strategy and validation.
Status
Lead-in and compensation in LamiNest Cut are limited, and full tab implementation is not confirmed. See the CAM status.
